The Connecticut high school hockey player who died this week after his neck was slit open by a skate during a tragic incident on the ice has been identified.
Teddy Balkind, a 10th grader at the St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, was fatally injured Thursday night during a private-school matchup.

During the game, Balkind fell to the ice. As he lay on the ground, another player who was near him was unable to stop in time, and the two collided, officials said.

The hockey world is hurting over the tragic loss of Teddy Balkind yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the young players from St. Luke’s and Brunswick and especially the Balkind family. Rest In Peace Teddy #sticksoutforTeddy pic.twitter.com/OmtRUH4diQ

His father had been present at the game, between Brunswick School, an all-boys college prep school in Greenwich, and St. Luke’s School, a co-ed private school.
On Friday evening, students and their families gathered outside of St. Luke’s School, which was closed during the day due to snow, to mourn the horrific loss.
